How to prevent GIMP for opening PDF files

Following this solution found on Archlinux’s forums I was able to prevent GIMP for opening PDF files:

sed -i -r ‘s|=(gimp\.desktop);([^;]+?)|=\2;\1|’ /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

For some reason GIMP was the preferred application to open this type of files, but is not very nice.

Simple backup script

I use this script to synchronize my files from my desktop computer to my usb pendrive:
#!/bin/sh if [ -z $1 ]; then echo "Error: missing source path" elif [ -z $2 ]; then echo "Error: missing destination path" else rsync -arRuv --delete --files-from=$1/bin/sync.txt $1 $2 fi
Save as sync.sh, for example. If you want to know about the rsync options I use, read the fine manual.

sync.txt is a file that contains the path of the files you want to copy from your $HOME, for example:
.xinitrc .zshrc TODO bin work/geoz/mainline.tar.bz2
But it is not limited to that. You can also synchronize from your $HOME to a remote host:
./sync.sh $HOME user@host:~
This is also valid, to synchronize from a remote host to your $HOME:
./sync.sh user@host:~ $HOME
Remember to have rsync installed on the remote host.

SSH X11 Forwarding

On client’s /etc/ssh/ssh_config:

ForwardX11 yes
ForwardX11Trusted yes

On server’s /etc/ssh/sshd_config:

X11Forwarding yes
X11UseLocalhost yes

Remember to restart the SSH daemon in the server.

If you hate ads, this is for you. All you need is to go to this page and follow the instructions.

Archlinux users can install opera-adblock-complete from the AUR and make a symbolic link of /usr/share/opera-adblock-complete/urlfilter.ini to their ~/.opera/ directory.

The best of all is that it really works.

Building AUR packages with Makeaur

Many of you know Yaourt, but there is a simpler script to download and build AUR packages for Archlinux: Makeaur.

It is a small bash script -117 lines- that takes a package name as argument and build it. It follows the KISS principles!
